Wigs in Pop Culture

Gone are the days when wigs were worn by Grandmas or saved for Halloween parties. Today wigs are a flirty, fun, and commitment-free way for women to change up their looks and boost their confidence. Many of our celebrities today have hopped onto the wig train also! Rihanna, Mary J Blige, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and Katy Perry are just a few big names that are known for their ever-changing hairstyles and keeping us all wondering, "what will she look like next?"

A famous Hollywood stylist and custom wig designer commented that, "Wigs are not like they were decades ago, they're more natural-looking now and lightweight. Lace front wigs provide a natural hair line that's practically undetectable so you can pull your hair back, twist it up, and in an instant, you can go from drab to fab."

Wigs also give a celebrity's hair a much-needed break from the daily grind of washings, colorings, blowouts, and hot tools. Tina Turner started wearing wigs after her natural hair began to fall out after a chemical process. She is one of the first entertainers to take wigs from the stage to everyday life. Dolly Parton and Diana Ross also wear wigs on a daily basis. Wigs allow celebrities to look their absolute best when they go out in public and not disappoint their fans who expect them to look a certain way.

From the red carpet to stage and the big screen, it's clear that wigs are here to stay. What was once kept a secret is now a bold, stylish, and fun fashion statement. When it comes to wearing wigs in 2014, its not about noticing the wig itself, its about noticing the image, and let's face it, in Hollywood, that's what it's all about.
